Warsop Parish Council
ANNUAL REPORT - 2011
(1st April 2010 – 31st March 2011)

Chairman’s Report 2011

The council has during this past year continued to fight to protect the services we have in our community. In September 2010 the council signed the contract and the Town Hall finally became the property of the people of Warsop. This ensures that many of the services accessed at the town hall can continue to operate. Immediately after signing the contract, the council began work on renovating the interior as it had been somewhat neglected in the past. The upstairs offices have been redecorated and carpeted, a new stair lift installed to ensure full accessibility and the entire building is now wireless. We will continue to invest time into the building to ensure that many more services are available in Warsop’s only civic building. Alan Meale MP has taken up residency, Mansfield District Council’s housing department will have a surgery starting next month and we are hoping that in the near future our Warsop Police team will also become tenants within the building. We are still in a transition period within the building and it should be noted that what has been achieved so far is down to many volunteer hours. I would particularly like to thank Iain, Mike and the other Infotech members for the work they have done and continue to do. I would also like to thank our volunteers who provide reception cover so that the people of Warsop can access the services that they need to.

We have also continued to work in partnership with the SOS group who have fought tirelessly to save the Meden Swimming Baths. The work this group have undergone over the past year has ensured that the swimming baths has continued to remain open and will do so until September 2011 at the earliest. This is a proud achievement considering it was originally scheduled to close at the end of March 2010.

During the 2010-11 financial year, the council had to increase it’s precept to ensure that we had the funds to carry out the work on the Town Hall and other projects. This is an investment and we thank the people of Warsop for their support. Fortunately, the increase meant parishioners were only paying an additional £2 per year.

Organisations that we have funded this year include once again Warsop Carnival and the 2010 event was successful despite the organisers being presented with many hurdles to jump. Our thanks go to them. We are also pleased to be working with Kevin Keegan and the rest of the SHINE team, they are hoping to take full ownership of the Adam Eastwood Centre to turn it into a community venue that Warsop can be proud of. SHINE are currently working very well to engage the youth in our community and we give them our full support. The vision for the centre is one not just aimed at providing services for the youth but the entire community. I would recommend that anybody interested in the project ideas should contact SHINE and be inspired for themselves.

As always a full list of organisations that have benefited from Section 137 payments is available from the Parish Clerk and included in this Annual Report.

For me personally it has continued to be a great privilege to serve as Chairman of the Parish Council for a second year. All parish councillors are volunteers, elected to serve. I would like to thank them for uniting in the service of our great community. All the Parish Councillors terms of office end this May during the local elections after which, as outgoing chairman, I look forward to welcoming a new council, whatever form it takes!

And finally I would like to thank Tania Barlow, our Clerk to the council, for another smooth running year. She works tirelessly not only for the Parish Council but also editing the fantastic Warsop and District News. This is in addition to volunteering for the many other events that take place in Warsop from the carnival to the pantomime.

Thank you once again, Tania.

Cllr Stuart Moody , Chairman
Warsop Parish Council.
